Modern public transport for sustainable mobility
The new Line 3 metro is scheduled to be completed in 2022. By then, 27 new stations will help transport 140,000 passengers daily. The first three stations were inaugurated in July this year as part of Athens’ Line 3 metro extension - a EUR 730m investment in an area faced with intense road traffic and a shortage of public transport services. The three new stations are expected to serve 63,000 passengers daily, connecting Piraeus port - the largest port in the country and one of the most important distribution hubs in Europe - with Athens’ city center and with the Eleftherios Venizelos international airport. The new metro line will also help take an estimated 11,000 cars off the road, which corresponds to 120 fewer tons of CO2 per day.
Products that have built a landmark
Our teams in Greece have provided best-in-class support to the project -- as well as 80,000 m3 of high-quality concrete. The material contributions include innovative, tailor-made solutions, including a foam concrete for lightweight fill construction. This special and customized product simulates the soil behavior before the real excavation begins. Around 7,000 m3 of this tailor-made and new cellular concrete was used to fill a 125m tunnel section that allowed safe excavation while at the same time contributing to the overall project efficiency.
